Social Media Platform X (formerly Twitter) is now blocking links to “Signal.me”, a URL used by the signal code messages to share your account information with another person.
According to the Bleepingcomputer tests and the reports of other users, who try to post signal.me links via public messages, direct messages or profile BIOS receive error messages stating spam or malware risks.
“This request looks like it may be automated. To protect our users against spam and other malignant activities, we cannot complete this action now. Try it again later,” reads an error that is shown when sending signal.me Left.
As is apparent from the tests below, only messages that specifically contain the URL “signal.me” are blocked.

Journalist Matt Binder, who reported on the issue for the first time, says it is unclear when this behavior started on the platform.
“It is unclear when X blocked” signal.me “on the left on the platform,” Binder explains in his description.
“However, it seems like a fairly recent change, because users have previously been able to include” signal.me “connections in public messages and in their profile bio. Other signal connections, such as Signal.org, do not seem to be blocked.”
Other URLs associated with signal, such as Signal.link and Signal.Group Links, do not seem to be influenced by the block. In addition, other contact links for message services from third parties such as Telegram as usual can be shared on the X platform.
In the meantime, signal.me left that were already posted on X before the application of the blocks still clicks. However, users will see a warning stating that the link may be unsafe when clicking on the link.

Reasons
Signal.me Left are unique URLs that are generated by the Signal Messaging app with which users can share their contact with others, so that they can easily contact them on signal.
These links make it easier for people to connect without exchanging telephone numbers manually, making it a private and safe way to initiate discussions.
Researcher Tommy Mysk, who was one of the first to discover the problem this weekend, said Bleepingcomputer that the reason behind this promotion is currently unclear.
“I accidentally discovered it. I can’t speculate, but the behavior is very similar when they ban mastodon -left,” said Mysk.
In 2023, after Elon Musk had bought Twitter, the social media platform began to block left to competitive platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon. This was quickly reversed after protests from users.
More recently, Musk has received criticism about how the US Department that he leads, the Ministry of Government Efficiency (Doge), has gained access to the data of various US government agencies.
Signal, a popular end-to-end coding communication app, is reportedly widely used by federal employees to report the violations of doge to journalists.
That is why there is speculation that the signal.me link blocks are driven on x politically. However, X did not make any statements about the blocks or responded to requests for comments.
Bleepingcomputer contacted Signal for a comment about the situation and we will update this message as soon as we hear again.
