Whale swallows people and then spits him out again: science alert

A humpback whales briefly swallowed a kayaker in southern Chile, before he spewed him unharmed, a great escape that was all recorded on video.

Adrian Simancas paddled on Saturday from the Patagonian city of Punta Arenas when the gigantic balan shot out of the water and swallowed him and his yellow kayak completely.

Five seconds later, a bewildered Simanca’s floats to the surface, while the dorsal of the whale appeared again above the surface of the ice -cold gray water.

“I thought he had swallowed me!” Simancas exclaimed.

The whole remarkable episode was caught on the camera and quickly went viral after he was posted on social media by his father, Dell Simancas, who can be heard to scream “Relax! Relax!” To his understandably non -arranged son.

“Grab it, grab it,” the father adds and instructs his son to hold the kayak to float while the whale kept swimming behind him,

“Relax, relax, I’m coming,” says the father. “Let’s go to the coast.”

The 24-year-old son told Chili’s TVN channel that he saw something that “blue and white passed close to my face, and it was like on one side and above me.

“I didn’t understand what was going on and then I dropped. I thought it had eaten me.”

His father said he turned around and “saw nothing, I didn’t see Adrian.

“That was the only moment of fear that I really had, because I didn’t see him for about three seconds. And suddenly he shot out,” he told TVN.

Experts said the whale de Kayaker could never have swallowed, because humpbacks have small throat.

“It seems that the kayak was right in the whale or fishing patch (from Krill or Fish),” Zeebiologist Maria Jose Perez, from the University of Chile, told AFP.

That is why it “appears on the surface on the surface on the surface, with its mouth open.”

“These events are very rare and happened in the presence of silent ships, such as Kayaks,” she said, and explained that the whale probably did not notice the small boat.
