As a result of the dedication of Georgia Southern to increase the consciousness of students and access to sources for mental health care, the university has recently been named a Full Jed Campus (JED) Member University. Georgia Southern has recently completed a four -year partnership with JED, a national collegial program for mental health care that leads colleges through a collaboration process of building extensive systems, programs and policy.

Together with the JED efforts, Georgia Southern considerably increased student consciousness and access to sources for mental health care. A recent report shows that 83% of Georgia Southern University students agree that the administration listens to the concerns of students about health and well -being. This is an increase of 15% since 2020.

In 2020, the university system of Georgia launched various system -wide initiatives and means to increase the consciousness and resources of mental health for all its institutions.

One of these initiatives was to finance the registration of all institutions in the JED Campus program. This included the establishment of a JED campus team, a first climate study for mental health care of the campus conducted by the Healthy Minds Institute on behalf of JED, the completion of a southern self-study in Georgia, a campus location of JED and the development and completion of a four-year strategic strategic plan.

“By participating in the four-year JED campus process, Georgia Southern has enabled to strengthen and expand her university dedication to the mental health of our students, teachers and staff,” said Jodi K. Caldwell, Ph.D. , Counseling Center Executive Director & Jed Campus Team Lead. “The JED team continues to commit itself to the growth of Georgia Southern’s efforts to offer awareness, education, resources and support for the well-being of our community. We are grateful to the university system of Georgia, whose support this possibility has financed for all USG institutions and for the support of our Georgia Southern Administration. “

The university has recently increased awareness and resources through programs such as the Hero folder. Students who are aware of the efforts for Mental Health Care Outreach grew from 40% to 60%, and those who know where they can seek professional help have risen from 78% to 84%, according to the JED feedback report. Additional findings can be found in the full report at the bottom of this article.

Georgia Southern will now be considered an alumni of the program and will continue various programs and initiatives by Jed.
