Indiana House Democrats say that the state budget must give priority to public education, financing health care and exemption for work class Hoisiers.
The budget of the Republicans increased the K-12 teaching financing every year by 2 percent. But a considerable part of it would go to private schools, through the expansion of the voucher program.
Rep. Greg Porter (D-Indianapolis) said that his Caucus’s proposal for HB 1001 increases financing for all public schools by 2 percent.
“A thin line between saving dollars and financing programs that people need,” said Porter.
The GOP budget does not eliminate waiting lists with its Medicaid financing. Porter said that Democrats not only want to put enough money in Medicaid to erase those waiting lists, but to add an extra $ 300 million.
“There is no way that we can put our heads in the sand and say that there will be no cuts. We are going to have cuts at the federal level, “said Porter. “We have to be ready.”

Porter said that the tax priorities of his caucus also include universal financing for the pre-K program on my way, an increase in the earned income tax credit to 12 percent (an increase of 10 percent) and a boost to the tenant of the tenant of $ 3,000 to $ 4,000.
To help pay for the budget proposal of the Democrats, Porter said that the state should increase the cigarettes and alcoholic burden, the school voucher program must peel back and stop future tax cuts.
