The switch itself often comes across as a fragile small device. The Joy-Con will float, the score will break, the rails will wiggle. But we will never again say a bad word about the game cases of the console; Those resilient little boys can ward off the elements.
That is at least, that is what Reddit user discovered last week after a fire of a power strip short circuit flooded their bedroom in flames. Fortunately, everyone escaped escaped unharmed and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but most of their possessions, including a physical game collection, were destroyed.
You would think that a disaster would waste as this on everything that it touches, but not those precious switch carts. Instead of collapsing the flames, the Nintendo switch boxes stepped on the plate and provided an unexpected level of protection, so that the games kept safe and sound.
Of course the boxes themselves took a good beating (as the next Reddit Post shows), but, but, but praising the melted plastic apart with a hammer and screwdriver, Demuresow discovered that such damage had come across as the completely important carts. Looking at the follow -up photo of the carts themselves, you would not assume that there was something wrong with them, let alone that they had just been in a house fire.
The real kicker? All games still work. Demuresow answered in the thread above, said they tested every cart and that everything is in good condition. The most important thing is of course that everyone made it right, but it will cost more than a little heat to prevent those cases from doing their job!
Between these boxes and the Gulf War Game Boy has Nintendo History with a number of pretty sturdy designs, isn’t it?
