Niantic, the company behind the popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go, wants to sell his game development activities, Bloomberg reported, referring to anonymous sources.
The company is reportedly investigating a deal with mobile game developer Scopely, who is owned by Saudi Arabia-based Savvy Games Group, to sell the unit for around $ 3.5 million.
Niantic and Scopely did not respond immediately to requests for comments.
Niantic is one of the few companies that have been able to successfully use its augmented reality carbonades to build games. The first title, Ingress, was widely praised for his unique geography -based view of territory check, but the company really shot up with Pokémon Go, who started in 2016 and soon became a global phenomenon.
The subsequent titles have been relatively successful, but not on the scale that Pokémon Go enjoyed. In 2022, the company released 8% of its staff and closed four projects, including Harry Potter: Unite Wizards. In 2023 it fired 230 employees and canceled its NBA and Marvel-related competitions.
Last year it updated its Scaniverse app to have users made models of Real-World objects and to provide the data to developers. In November the company said it wanted to build a large geospatial model that Machine Learning would use to “understand a scene and connect with millions of other scenes worldwide.”
