by Apple has just unveiled the iPhone 16th that we thought would be the iPhone SE of the fourth generation. But I can see why they have changed the name: it is much more than every previous iPhone SE model. And that also explains why it is $ 170 more than the last iPhone SE. It’s called iPhone 16th
The newest member of the family, as CEO Tim Cook mentioned last week, is indeed a member of the iPhone 16 family. So it has a name that relates it to iPhone 16 and, implicitly, Apple Intelligence.

Previous iPhone SE models had inherited designs. This is completely new. It has the same screen as the iPhone 16, 6.1 inches, the same ceramic shield on the front and it is in two colors, black and white, both with a matte finish.
Just like the other iPhone 16 models, it has the action button on the side, configurable to various functions, including visual intelligence.
Other iPhone 16 -handets use the camera control for this, but that is not on this iPhone. It is one of the design differences of other phones.
iPhone 16th camera
This is the other big visual difference: there is only one camera on the back. The sensor has a resolution of 48 megapixels, much more than every iPhone it has ever had. It means that you can cut 12 megapixels of the frame in the central to deliver a 2x optical zoomquivalent.
The front camera is 12 megapixels, such as other iPhone 16 models.
iPhone 16th Processor and Modem
It has found the same A18 processor in the iPhone 16, so it is capable of Apple Intelligence. And it comes with a real first: Apple’s internal modem, called the C1.
iPhone 16th storage
There had been rumors that the new phone would be bumped by 64 GB storage, as previous SE had iPhones. But no, it comes with 128 GB storage, with 256 GB and 512 GB options available.
iPhone 16th battery life
Apple says that this phone has an exceptional battery life, in fact the longest battery life of each iPhone with a 6.1-inch display. That means it defeats the iPhone 16 that costs $ 200 more. It promises to play for 26 hours of video. For comparison, the iPhone 16 manages 22 hours of video play.
iPhone 16th prize
The price tag of $ 599 (£ 599 in the UK) is a major shift compared to the price of $ 429 of the current iPhone SE, which is no longer available. This is perhaps part of the reason for the new naming.
iPhone 16th release date
As I had predicted, pre-sales open on Friday, February 21 and it is for sale on Friday 28 February.
iPhone 16th first thoughts
The price is more than rumors, but this phone does so much more than was predicted, it seems justified. This is nothing like an iPhone SE. It has Face ID, an OLED display, ceramic shield, the action button instead of the sliding switch Mute/Ring, a 48-megapixel reversing camera, USB-C connector, the A18 processor, satellite connectivity, a completely new modem and access to Apple Intelligence.
Apple has succeeded in keeping so much of this new phone under wraps, it offers many irresistible reason to upgrade.
