RIP Viktor Antonov – Aftermath

Viktor Antonov, an artist and art director who played an important role in defining the visual style of some of the most visual-striking video games in the history of the medium, died. He was 52 years old.

Born in Bulgaria, Antonov started his career in the competitions in the late nineties and was announced in 2004 when he was the art director Half -life 2A game whose ultra-stylized villains and the dilapidated Eastern European setting gave it such a unique style that it looked for people looking for who his art director was even and looks as fresh today as with release.

Antonov then went to work in Arkane, where he not only played an important role in the iconic visuals of the Dehydrated series, but also The intersectionA game that was eventually canceled before release, but where I still think from time to time. Especially because of his art.

Other games that Antonov worked on in a role of supervisory or consultant include Fallout 4Wolfenstein: The New OrderPrey and 2016s Doom.

More recently, Antonov had worked at Eschatology Entertainment, a company that he co-designed, on an upcoming, unannounced shooter. Eschatology posted a short explanation earlier today, stating:

It is difficult to say goodbye to colleagues, it is painful to lose a friend and the world changes when talented people leave. It is frightening if it all comes together at some point.

Today our studio mourns a dear colleague, an inspiring friend and a legendary visual director. One of the founders of Eschatology Entertainment, Viktor Antonov, died a week ago. We are still waiting for official newspapers, but unfortunately these are not rumors.

The journey we shared with Viktor, the inspiration he brought and the world we built together, has a deep meaning for us. We are grateful for the incredible experience, the remarkable history that we have made side by side, and for his talent and vision – without the basis of our studio not being possible.

Viktor has made an enormous contribution to shaping the unique world of our coming project and influenced the vision of the entire team at the universe of the game. It is deeply sad that Viktor will no longer be able to present this universe personally with us.

Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues. We mourn together.
