Huawei’s Trifold Mate XT telephone is launched outside of China, but it will not be cheap. The first and only telephone in the world that folds in the display on two separate points costs € 3,499 (around $ 3,660) -and just like other Huawei phones, no Google apps will officially support.
The Mate XT launched in China in September 2024. It has a dual-hinge folding display that produces users three different screen configurations: a 6.4-inch panel when closed, a 10.2-inch screen with tablet the size of a tablet if if Fully opened and a 7.9-inch display when only partially unfolded.
The Trifold is also impressively thin, only 3.6 mm thick on the thinnest point when open. That is even thinner than the upcoming Oppo Find N5, which is also promoted as the foldable ‘world’ world. That phone will be thinner than that of Huawei when closed, helped by having only two panels instead of three.
The 5,600 mAh battery must be sufficient to take the day, even with the larger screen size, and the Mate XT supports wireless or wireless charging. The camera on the back also looks impressive, with a main sensor of 50 megapixels merged by 12-megapixel ultrawide and periscope shooters. The big disadvantage is that, like other Huawei hardware, there is no support for Google apps and services, including the Play Store. The company has its own Android-free operating system, Harmonyos, then launched, but the Mate XT has not yet been upgraded to that software, not even in China.
I got the chance to try the Mate XT shortly after the September unveiling, and was struck by how firm it feels despite the delicate design. It is a bit not – intuitively to fold each screen segment in a different direction to close the phone, but that is a small price to pay – at least compared to the relatively large price you have to pay to have the thing.
During his Kuala Lumpur launch event, Huawei did not confirm exactly which markets the phone in Malaysia, nor when will be launched. Huawei UK Public Relations Specialist Elliot Mulley-Goodbarne has confirmed The edge That it “does not come to the UK or us for the time being.” It is launched in a single configuration, with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.
The Mate XT was launched in addition to a new pair of open earplugs called the Freearc, the band 10 Fitness Tracker and a Matepad Pro 13.2 tablet with a Matle OLED display.
