In January 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the “Strategy for optimizing National Routine Health Information Systems (RHIS): Strengthening health information systems for providing primary health care (PHC) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC)”.
By improving Rhis, countries with low and middle income, including Indonesia, can improve the monitoring and delivery of health care, in particular for PHC. The strategy establishes principles for an integrated, interoperable, evidence-intended and partnership-driven RHIS, structured around five strategic goals with measurable interventions.
The strategy is tailored to the technical package of the health data and is intended to generate information to better manage health services and to follow national and global health goals. In Indonesia, strengthening RHIS is crucial for supporting the Ministry of Health-led programs such as Satusehat, the national health data ecosystem of Indonesia and for integrating health data in PHC facilities, hospitals and community services.
The strategy offers a clear vision, strategic goals, accompanying principles and important interventions to improve the collection, reporting, analysis and use at all levels of health data – to ensure coordination with both public and private health sectors.
